Insurance

GemLab’s qualified Jewellery Valuers will tailor the valuation reports to best suit your insurance policy.

Our Valuation Reports have detailed descriptions, up to date values and colour photos that will provide you with real protection should your jewellery and/or watches be lost, stolen or damaged.  This will help you obtain a fast and fair settlement from your insurance company in the event of a claim.

Selling

With a respected valuation from GemLab you can have the confidence you need to sell your jewellery and/or watches.

We will provide the most cost-effective document to suit the type and value of each item.  So that you will only be charged for work that is worthwhile to you.

Let a GemLab sales valuation take the stress out of deciding what your sale price should be and help you to answer the technical questions about your jewellery.

Pre-Purchase

If you want to know the true market value of the jewellery you are considering buying you need a GemLab Retail Market Valuation.

A Valuation for Insurance Replacement will not give you the true value of a new or second hand piece of jewellery. In fact, Insurance Valuations can be very misleading when used as a sales tool.  Instead, to get a reliable unbiased opinion of worth, you need a GemLab Retail Market Valuation.

Estate Division

If you have jewellery that is to be divided up between heirs, GemLab can provide the relative values you need for an equitable result.

We will sit down with you and go through the items and advise the most cost effective approach.

You can be assured of a professional unbiased report that all the interested parties can rely upon.

Legal Purposes

We provide professional independent valuation reports for all legal purposes.

Divorce proceedings, insurance claim disputes, small claims, commercial disputes are some of the areas covered.

Paul Nilsson is experienced in preparing documentation for all legal matters involving jewellery and gems. He has also appeared as an expert witness in several court cases.

Gem Identification

The first step in the process of valuing a gemstone or piece of jewellery is establishing exactly what it is.

Gemmological testing involves observation of the surface and internal characteristics of a gem material along with other non-destructive optical and physical tests.

We offer Identifications of polished and cut gemstones, either loose or set in jewellery. We also safely identify precious metals using our XRF testing machine.

Our identification reports start at $50- for a metal or gemstone identification, or $70- for both.

Insurance Claims

If you have lost, stolen or damaged jewellery and/or watches your first step will be to contact your insurance company and lodge a claim. At the same time, you can send them the copies of your valuations for your lost items.  If you need copies of your previous valuations contact us. Your insurance company will then organise after loss valuations to obtain the current value of your items.  It is important that you keep your jewellery valuations up to date and that you specify the items that you need to on your insurance policy.  We recommend reviewing your valuations every 3 years and having your claws and clasps checked on your jewellery annually.

If you have a problematic jewellery claim that needs an independent second opinion, we can help. Please contact us with copies of all relevant communications, documentation, photos, etc to do with the claim along with a summary of what the problem is.

We will review and let you know if our report would be worth your while paying for.

Trade Services

Remote Services

If you have existing GemLab valuations, in your name and that are less than 10 years old, in most cases we can update the reports without needing to re-examine the items.

Please contact us with the GemLab reference numbers, photos of the items, and the reason you need the update – insurance cover, insurance claim, selling, legal, etc.

If you require copies of misplaced valuations, please contact us with your name, address at the time of valuation and a brief description of the items.

We will reply with confirmation and a quote.

Alternatively, if you have jewellery and/or watch items that need to come to us for valuing you can contact us to find your nearest jeweller that will arrange a GemLab valuation for you.
